The Civics Society

Issue No. 1

Welcome to the very first Civics Society newsletter.

Dear friends of the Civics Society,

This is our very first newsletter, and the first of many to come. Going forward, this is where we’ll keep you close to what we’re building: upcoming events, new tools and resources, opportunities worth your attention, and the occasional invitation to get more involved. We’re glad you’re here from the start.

With that, this month we have two things to share. The first is an evening with practitioners who’ve built durable careers in public policy, and the second is a new tool to help you find your own way in. Careers in public service rarely run in a straight line — and they make the most sense when you hear them from the people already doing the work.

An Evening in DC

Navigating Change & Building Resilient Public Policy Careers

Join our panel of early- to mid-career professionals as they share the twists, pivots, and lessons that shaped their paths in public policy. Expect honest perspectives, a practical toolkit for navigating your own career exploration, and real time to network with people worth knowing.

🗓  Monday, July 13 · 5:30–9:00 PM
📍  Middlebury in DC Office — 1400 K Street, Washington, DC
🍽  Dinner will be provided.

Introducing the Opportunity Tracker

Finding a way into public service shouldn’t be harder than the work itself — but the openings are too often scattered across dozens of sites, buried, or gone before you ever hear about them. Our new Opportunity Tracker pulls them into one place.

Now live on our website, the Tracker aggregates real public-service openings from across the field — spanning government, think tanks, FFRDCs, nonprofits and more — and refreshes them automatically. You can:

• Browse and filter live openings by sector, location, type (full-time, internship or fellowship), clearance and date posted.
• Save the roles you like and track your applications from interested to applied to interviewing — all stored privately in your own browser, no account required.

Let’s Hear From You

Questions about the panel? An idea for a future event, a role or employer we should add to the Tracker, or feedback of any kind? Just reply to this email or write to us at thecivicssociety@gmail.com — a real person reads every message, and we do our best to write back within a day or two. Whether you want to get involved, bring a chapter to your campus, or simply talk through your options, our inbox is open and we’d love to hear from you.

We hope to see many of you on July 13. If public service is something you’re even just curious about, consider this your invitation in.

Warmly,
The Civics Society
